Who, What & Where

We ask people to register as Ferrets for the simple reason that it helps everyone when organising events. We aim to make our runs as accessible as possible to as many Ferrets as possible, so we need to know where they live, and what bike they'll be on to determine appropriate paces and fuel stops, and to help in identifying people within the rides. We also need contact details for arranging attendance & meet-ups. Communication is normally by email, but where urgency is required, we usually use SMS text messages. Registering is free, as is attendance on our events. The only costs you'll incur will be your own fuel, and occasionally any accommodation or entrance fees applicable to an event.

If you use one of the eMail links to contact another Ferret, the email that you send will be received by us for forwarding. A forwarding confirmation email will be sent to you. This is to preserve the confidentiality of everyone's addresses. After this initial contact, it is then up to the receiver to contact you directly, if they so wish. We will not interfere in any way with the contents of the initial email that we handle on your behalf, although it will be visible to us. We would prefer that all subsequent communication between you and your recipient is handled without involving us any further.

Want to Register as a Ferret?

Put the brief information that we need, explained in the following, into the email message that you'll get when you click on the 'Submit Registration Request' link at the very bottom of this page, and send it off to us. We'll normally process your request within a couple of days.

Your Handle	A unique name that you'd like to be known by. Check the list of currently registered Ferrets to make sure that it's unique. If you're not into handles, and want to be known by your actual name, then use this - provided that it's not already in use. We normally use your real name, or any nickname you want to use, when face to face.
Your Name	Your full name would be nice, but just your forename's enough.
Your Partner's Name	If your partner is likely to be coming along with you, then we'd like to be able to make them feel as welcome as you will be.
Your Address	This is principally so that we have a good idea of the distribution of Ferrets when planning ride routes and meet-up locations, so that we can make sure that most Ferrets are able to get on rides as conveniently as possible. We only need it to be accurate to village, town or city district, but if you're happy to provide your full address with postcode, then this does help.
Your eMail Address	This will be the principal method of communication, so make sure it's one that you're happy to receive Ferrets' communications on. We now use blind courtesy copy addressing, so your email address will not be visible to anybody else. The side-effect of this is that emails will appear to have been sent to you alone, regardless of who else has also been sent the same email. However, each communication will indicate the full list of recipients within the body of the message.
Your Mobile Number	This will only normally be used to send you SMS text messages where urgency is required. Usually this will be where arrangements have had to be changed at a late stage, and where there's a risk that an email may not be seen in time. We may try to contact you if you are late arriving at a meet-up, to check that you are OK, or if you've been delayed and we should wait for you.
Your Home Number	Very rarely used, if ever, so if you're not happy providing this, then don't.
Your Bike(s)	The make and model of any bikes that you are likely to attend rides on. We use this to manage routes, so that fuel stops and leg distances are appropriate. It's important for us to know what your tank range is, or how far you're likely to go before risking being crippled L
The Bike(s)' Colours	The colour of bike is helpful to us in marshalling the rides, especially when we have large groups. It makes it far easier for us to identify you. If you have a Blackbird, then you'll also be aware of the friendly rivalry that exists between the colours J
Anything Else	If you think there's anything else that we ought to be aware of, such as a disability or medical condition, then please do let us know. The whole aim of our events is that everybody enjoys their time on them, so we would like to know of anything that we can do to make this be the case for you.
The information that you provide will be stored in an electronic medium for the sole purpose of managing Flying Ferrets events. It will not be disclosed to anybody other than the Group Administrators in the course of their duties in managing our events. It will never be made available to any third parties whatsoever. As is your right under the current Data Protection Act 1998 Chapter 29, the information stored will be made available to you upon written request. A small fee will be charged to cover postal costs. The information that you provide for the categories presented in red, above, will be publically visible on our website and your provision of this is understood to be a tacit acceptance of this. However, if you provide your full name, only your forename will appear on the website.
